③出力側に可変またはon/offできるATT(16~20dB)を内蔵しておくと便利。
51MHz→29MHz converter for NF measurement, 28dB gain & 1.6dB NF, DC12V
40mA
This is a down converter for NF measurement, and is basically same as an
ordinary converter. The point is as following.
(1) Unconditional stability and enough gain (>25dB) are needed.
Because it isn't for actual QSO, the dynamic range to an overload isn't
important.
(2) If the converter NF is less than 2dB, it's OK in the measurement accuracy
(of Y-factor) point of view.
It isn't necessary to make it less than 1dB with efforts.
(3) It's convenient to have a variable or switchable ATT (16-20dB) built-in
on the output.
This is used to adjust gain to get an optimum noise floor in the actual
LNA measurement.
(4) The local signal leakage to IF output should be suppressed sufficiently
(<-60dBm).
22MHz Lo signal which is close to IF (28MHz) tends to make a bad influence
to the measurement result.
(5) It should be equipped with good BPFs in RF and IF section to get a
proper band width and enough rejection.
Image rejection ratio is wished for more than 50dB.
An NF measuring system which has a low-noise converter which precedes a
wide-band IF chain of 100dB gain is a radiometer with high sensitivity
in a sense. Therefore, measurement interference (flutter of indication
meter) which frequently occurred was my headache for long especially on
2m band where a lot of communication radio waves exist (government, commercial
service, and amateur). I think you can understand that I had to completely
give up my pleasure when that started. But a problem had not been felt
on 50MHz band before.
In these days, a strong digital signal is increased around the 6m band,
and funny interference has become easy to get. First of all, a converter
board should be installed in a good shielded case. And next an RF decoupling
filter has to be set at the entrance of DC line. Such basic points are
indispensable. This converter was manufactured in July 2000.
