1970年の秋、JA1AA庄野さんが執筆したQRPの特集記事がCQ誌に掲載された。「ミニワットででっかく楽しもう！」と銘打ち、16ページに渡りQRPの歴史やその意義、実際の交信実績などに加えて具体的な小電力化のやり方や実験結果、1.9メガから144メガまで多様な送信機回路などアカデミックかつ網羅的に解説したもので、QRP研究の成果発表と言っても良いような、大変力の入った特集だった。その年の春に開局したばかりの私(中学二年)は、次に10W送信機を作って、先々はもっと増力して・・・など漠然と考えていたが、まさかの微弱電力、それも1mWレベルまで追い込んで、実際に外国と交信している人がいるとは。これってもしかして前人未到の限界への挑戦？本当に衝撃だった。この特集を読み、無線に関する自分の世界感はぐっと広がったと思う。

　庄野さんとのQSOはたった一度だけ、2010年夏の夕方に私の出したQRPPのCQに応答してもらったもの。JA1に続く「トツー、トツー」を聞いた瞬間、何か全身にジワーッと流れ出したのを覚えている。

　一世紀を生きた庄野さんは、2019年8月にSKとなられた。前述した記事の最後は「日本でもQRP局同志の交信が次第に盛んになり、私もときおり仲間にいれていただきたいものと願っています」と結ばれていて、庄野さんの生前のお人柄が偲ばれる。


JA1AA /Hisao Shono, who was the 1st licensed amateur of Japan after the WW2, and was the father of JA QRP became silent key in August this year. I think he was really great amateur of peanut whistle DXing. A feature article of QRP which JA1AA wrote appeared on the JA CQ magazine in autumn of 1970. 16 pages of the article were very shocking for me who was a junior high school student then. “There is a man who completed WAC with only five milliwatts output!” I think my worldview of amateur radio turned big by the article to understand that QRP is a challenge to an untrodden limit point.

I met him only one time before on the air when he was 92 years old in midsummer of 2010. When I copied the call sigh “JA1 dot dash dot dash” to call me after I sent a period of ”CQ/QRP” on 40m to stand by, I found out that a very deep impression is flowing in the blood vessel all over my body. Obviously He was a legend already, but he was actually sending a keyed signal exclusively to me. So it's impossible not to be excited.

He was 100 years old when he passed. I'd like to wish for his rest in peace more than a heart.
