これは1989年に上梓された「U/SHFハンドブック」にJA1AUH後藤正伸さん(silent key)が発表した NFメーターである。ある日JA0BZC矢花さんから電話で「記事にあった裸基板とメーターの余剰がある。要るかい？」。いうまでもなく食いついて、早速製作に取り掛かった。専用のアバランシェダイオードAN1000も後藤さんから分けてもらい、本体と合わせてFBなノイズソース(ENR15dB/DC28V)を整備することができた。
完成してから問題となったのがメーター指針のフラッタ。フラツキが常に0.15dB程度あり読み取り難くて仕方がない。原因は可変ATTの接点品質(信頼性)で、しっかりした品質の高級品では針の幅１本分くらいしかフラツキが出ない。これでようやく完成となった。それまでJA0BZCのAIL75を借りるか、野辺山電波天文台の技官だったJA0LB宮澤さんを訪ねてHP8970Bで測ってもらうかだったから、ようやく自宅でそれも自作測定器でNFを測れるようになったことは大きな進歩だった。
この測定器はNFを測るだけでなく、宇宙雑音(Sun noise, Moon noise, ground noise)の測定にも使える28MHzワイドバンドラジオメーターの機能も持つ。1990年に製作してから、50MHzから10GHzまでのコンバータやLNAの調整、アンテナシステムの評価などにとても重宝し、当局の無くてはならない一台になっている。(1990年製作)

This is the PANFI (precision automatic NF indicator) that JA1AUH/Masanobu
Goto introduced in the “U/SHF hand book” published in 1989. One day, I
got a phone call from JA0BZC, he said “Do you need any major parts for
JA1AUH NF meter making?” It is needless to say that I bit to it, and I
began the making of NF meter soon. Avalanche diode AN1000 was divided from
Mr. Goto, and good noise source (ENR15dB/DC28V) that suited the main unit
was able to be produced.
A flutter of meter indicator became a problem after completion. The flutter
was around 0.15dB, and it obstructed meter reading. The cause was in the
point of contact quality (reliability) of variable ATT that I had used.
When I used high quality ATT, the flutter decreased to only one needle
width. At last, it became completion by this. Till then, the way to measure
NF was to borrow AIL75 of JA0BZC, or to visit JA0LB/Mr.Miyazawa in the
Nobeyama Radio astronomical observatory to measure it with HP8970B.
Therefore, having come to being able to measure NF with the home brew measuring
instrument at home was an enormous progress for me. This measuring instrument
has the function of 28MHz wideband receiver who measures not only NF but
also Sun noise/Moon noise/ground noise etc. it is very useful in the adjustment
and improvement of the converter and LNA of 50MHz-10GHz, and the evaluation
of the antenna system, etc. (making in 1990)
