I was using a dipole (DP) made of a couple of rod antennas of 1.5m length
for portable. However, because it was a little heavy, the antenna was not
suitable for hiking. Then, I made a lightweight wire DP, and I chose the
simple end-fed style. As the calculated impedance was 3kΩ, I made a small
box of L-matching network for it. The wire length is 2.85m, L is 1.2μH,
and VC is15pF 200V, so it is QRP specifications of 5Wmax.
Normally, I choose horizontally polarized “sky door” for the ground wave
QSO. But it will be reversed if sporadic-E occurs. I experienced being
called continuously by JA1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 0 for two hours and more
with this antenna and only 0.6W while I was in JA7 Hachinohe. As the radiation
angle is low, vertical DP is effective in the ionosphere propagation. (making
